So this week holds some memories for me. It's the 15 year anniversary of the OKC bombing and it's also been 15 years since 3 of my classmates were killed in an explosion in my home town. You know it's strange, it seems like just yesterday. I was in the 7th grade when both of these things happened. They happened in the same week. I can't believe that it has been 15 years. I remember going from class to class and just watching tv, just to see what the current world events were....the Oklahoma City bombing. I can remember my classmates crying. Some of them were worried about family members that were supposed to be up there that day. Others were just shocked and saddened that this was happening in our home state....right here in a city that we visited often. Those memories are very vivid. The other tragic events that I'm reminded of this week are those of 3 of my classmates that were killed in an explosion while riding thier bikes. I can remember seeing the smoke cloud on my way home from church. I can remember wondering what exactly it was..... I remember clearly the messages on my answering machine when I got home. As much as I would like to forget the words my friend Rachel said on that machine, I never will be able to. This week is always full of memories from the past. I always remember my 7th grade year, everything that happened that week. All the sadness, all the shock.....all those emotions. There's always one song I come back to every single time and it's the song they put in our yearbooks that year with our classmates pictures. I thought since this week I'm remembering all of this and also experiencing a new loss I'd share a song. I haven't shared lyrics in a while anyway. So here's the song that I always think of this time in April....
The Dance
Garth Brooks
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance
